Beach Baptism Bike Ride
LeBikeClub-It's-French-for-TheBikeClub (that's our full official name) is riding to Huntington Beach with some a bunch of friends this Saturday! Our brothers and sisters are getting baptized and it will be an awesome day.
If you didn't already sign up for a seat in the church van (which are now both full) you may still be able to join us. All you would need to do is get dropped off at the start of our ride on the bike trail. There should be enough empty seats in people's cars to take you back to The Grove at the end of the night. e-mail mario[at]lebikeclub.com if you are interested!
Details...
Meet: The Grove @ 9:00AM, we are leaving no later than 9:30AM.
Start: Gypsum Canyon RV Park (Gypsum Canyon Exit off the 91 fwy)
Distance: ~23 miles. Don't freak out, it's "all" downhill.
The few times you'll have to go uphill is when you go underneath overpasses. You're starting from 350 feet above sea level in Yorba Linda, all the way to the sea on a bike trail. No traffic, though there will be other cyclists, joggers, power walkers, dog walkers, Luke Skywalkers, the occasional chipmunks, squirrels, etc. so be aware of your surroundings. If we start early enough (before 10) the sun will still be behind us with a little tailwind to gently push us towards the beach. Sounds good right?
What to wear:
- Something you will be comfortable sweating in
- Athletic/tennis shoes
- Sunscreen
What to bring:
- Helmet
- Spare inner tube. Go to a Sport Chalet/Wal-Mart/Bike Shop. There are different sizes, look at the side your tires to find out the size you need.
- Water
- Water bottle (if necessary to hold your water)
- Backpack (if necessary to hold your water bottle)
That's pretty much it, I want you to have a good time on the ride, so come prepared. If you have any questions call or text me, 9099133377 -Mario
Free Renshaw!
Dude was just trying to protect his line...best lead-out man in the biz! Way to use your head kid.
Night ride.
What do you do on a Sunday night after an epic game of kickball at the church? Hop on your bikes so you can go up a dark mountain road of course!
Illuminated only by a full moon and a couple headlight on our handlebars; the climb up was sketch, the descent down was borderline-dangerous. Rolling 7 deep, navigating through dimly lit blind corners, sliding on loose gravel, missing jagged rocks on the inside wall while avoiding the severe cliff drop on the outside, and going 22mph downhill with only 5 yards of visibility ahead of us, was probably not a good idea.
Let's do it again.
(I wont even mention the failed water-balloon ambush that awaited us as we got back to the house, better luck next time girls.)
Close call
Any faster and he would have hit the white car, any slower and he would have been t-boned by the black car...lucky.
Shorts, sandals; Southern California livin’
It was a beautiful SoCal afternoon and I just happened to have my friends 15mm fisheye lens. So naturally I used it to take this self photo while riding the new Parlee Z5. Check out the death grip on the handlebar courtesy of my left hand. With my other hand (awkwardly) holding the camera, my thumb managed to release the shutter button. Let's just say my wallet is thankful I didn't crash.
Sandals? It's California; dry and lots of sunshine, they're pretty much dress code down here. Keep it casual kids.
Garmin Edge 500
Just got this nifty little device yesterday after months of talking myself out of laying down the cash to get one. Well, I gave the kit (Cadence & Heart Rate Monitor bundle) for a quick spin down the block just an hour ago. And my first impression of the new Garmin Edge 500? This is going to change everything...
I'm geeking out over this thing! Looking forward to tomorrow morning so I can play around with it some more. <3
Triplet tandem caught on Google Streetview!

Lake Hills Reserve climb.
I've been using bikely.com to map my bike routes. But mapmyride.com will actually tell you what grade your climb is. I can't believe my Lake Hills route hits 9%!, no wonder I have to zig zag my way to the top (I'm not a very good climber). Click the image to the right to see the bigger picture.
